URWERK UR-100V FTJ
Our Take
We’ve had the pleasure of handling some of Urwerk’s “Full Metal Jacket” timepieces. The iconic UR-202 and UR-210 with metal bracelets are extremely popular with collectors and enthusiasts for their heft and bad-ass aesthetic. Joining the ranks of these two rarities is a new Urwerk with metal bracelet – the UR-100V.
In a full titanium jacket, the UR-100V brings the model to a whole other level. Composed of 32 links, the bracelet almost appears reptilian – scaly, fluid, armor-like. One would never expect by sheer look that the sandblasted links would be as soft, light, and comfortable as they are on this timepiece. As Felix Baumgartner mentioned, “"our goal was to make the most comfortable watch to wear. The UR-100V Full Titanium Jacket is a perfectly ergonomic watch. Its bracelet is ultra-light and incredibly soft against the skin. It’s a bracelet synonymous with pleasure.” We can only hope that Martin and Frei, co-creators behind Urwerk, continue to grace the collector community with more bracelets in years to come.
Under the sapphire dome on the dial of the UR-100V, this timepiece carries all the emblems of an Urwerk: the wandering-hour time indicator and nod to the cosmos. As you notice, the red hand on the satellite time indicator pokes through at 10 and 2 o’clock to reveal time’s most intimate companion: distance. At both locations on the dial, this timepiece’s owner can see the distance the earth has traveled on its rotation (555km) and the distance the earth has revolved around the sun (35,740km). For the thinking human, this is a decidedly philosophical watch to reflect on our position in the cosmos.
