Moritz Grossmann 37 Arabic Vintage
Moritz Grossmann 37 Arabic Vintage
Our Take
In recent years, we’ve seen Moritz Grossmann pack their catalog with new, phenomenal releases. From the HAMATIC Vintage Cream with its fantastic movement (Cal. 106.0) to the complicated Tourbillon Tremblage, the Glashütte-based brand has shown its commitment to the craft. Now, Moritz Grossmann is expanding its offering with a new timepiece, the 37 Arabic Vintage.
Part of the brand’s Benu Collection, the 37 Arabic Vintage features many of Moritz Grossmann’s signatures, each developed over the past decade. One of these, shown front and center, is the well-designed and executed dial. Anthracite colored, the dial is made from untreated German silver: the matte, velvety hue shimmers in a variety of shades of gray. This effect is created by the deep engraving on the dial, or, to be more precise, the black engraving. This involves the surface being thermally treated, giving the untreated German silver an almost grainy structure and a dark hue that dampens the incident light. This results in an effect similar to that seen on velvet fabric, whose fibers disperse reflections and can look lighter or darker from different angles. On the dial, this gives rise to a perfect background for the raised numerals, scales and historic Grossmann logo, which is designed in the “M. GROSSMANN” typography style from 1875.
Another signature of Moritz Grossmann’s philosophy is a focus on the aesthetics of the mechanics. The 37 Arabic Vintage incorporates the in-house caliber 102.1. Featuring the classic basic structure of a 3/5 plate, the movement is a sleek 26mm in diameter with a height of 4mm. It works with an uneven escapement specially developed for this mechanism size as well as a modified regulation. The typical Grossmann structural components and fine finishing can be admired through the exhibition caseback. This includes the fine cuts and decorations on the components, the hand engraving on the balance cock and the plate and screwed gold chatons for some of the jewels.
All enclosed in a brushed stainless steel case with classical 37mm diameter, the 37 Arabic Vintage is a phenomenal, time-only addition to the Moritz Grossmann catalog.
