Arnold & Son Luna Magna Red Gold Meteorite
Arnold & Son Luna Magna Red Gold Meteorite
Our Take
Based out of La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland Arnold & Son has released some exceptional timepieces from the DTE to the Time Pyramid over the years. And now, the latest Luna Magna is yet another show of technical and design prowess. Coming with an exceptional, deep matte blue PVD meteorite dial, the Arnold & Son Luna Magna Red Gold Meteorite is a stunner.
Presenting the first three-dimensional moon, this Luna Magna’s meteorite’s criss-crossing, jagged geometric structures, which are known as Widmanstätten patterns, reflect the light across a vast surface reminiscent of the Sea of Tranquillity. The moon, a sphere formed half from Cacholong opal and half from matte blue PVD meteorite, reflects the nature of the celestial body.
Notably, this is the largest moon ever built into a wristwatch, and a creation that cements the first-class watchmaking and decorative techniques of Arnold & Son. Presented in a 44mm red-gold case, the dial recreates one of the brand’s distinctive design – the off-centered hours and minutes dial at 12 o’clock. This design of the dial frees up substantial space needed to display the large, 12mm diameter spherical moon complication at 6 o’clock as well as provide the timepiece’s owner with plenty to admire in the complexity of the meteorite.
As enthusiasts and collectors can see, the large moon emerges from the main plate of the new, in-house A&S1021 caliber without upsetting the overall balance of the timepiece. Arnold & Son has drawn on its remarkable creativity to make Luna Magna a well-proportioned watch that showcases the incredible volume of its moon without over-cluttering the dial. Without sacrifice to precision, this complication boasts spectacular accuracy due to its 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds lunar cycle. That means it will take 122 years for the movement’s display to deviate from the correct celestial reading by one day.
