Our Take

The UR-100 has become Urwerk’s primary canvas for experimentation with materials, colors, and textures. The brand’s most classically “wearable” watch, we’ve had the pleasure to handle many different UR-100 timepieces. Everything from the “C-3PO” to the Ultraviolet to the integrated bracelet on the “Full Metal Jacket,” it seems like every new release is better than the last. This trend continues with yet another, exciting addition to the family – the UR-100V LightSpeed.

Earlier UR-100 timepieces brought together the relationship between time and space. Indicators on the dial showcase the distance of earth’s rotation and circumvention of the sun. The UR-100V LightSpeed is an evolution of the same concept, bringing together the relationship between time, space, and light.

This timepiece houses a 3D planetarium featuring eight celestial bodies from our solar system, eight points of reference to illustrate the time taken for a ray of light to reach each of the planets. Within our space-time system, the sun's light reaches Mercury in 3.2 minutes, Venus in 6 minutes, Earth in 8.3 minutes, Mars in 12.6 minutes, Jupiter in 43.2 minutes, Saturn in 79.3 minutes, Uranus in 159.6 minutes and Neptune in 4.1 hours. With the sun as ultimate reference, the UR-100V LightSpeed retooled the automatic rotor to resemble the center of our solar system.

At 43mm in diameter and 14.5mm in thickness, the UR-100V LightSpeed is easily wearable even on skinnier wrists. In black carbon case, the self-winding UR 12.02 movement features a 48-hour power reserve and water resistance to 50m. An interesting evolutionary step for the Urwerk, this timepiece brings the UR-100 line beyond the earth-centered indications of space-travel to a bigger solar indicator for our entire planetary system.
