Introducing the Sylvain Pinaud Origine “Ste Croix”, An EsperLuxe 5 year Anniversary Special Collaboration.

With five years in business, retailer and curator of independent watchmaking EsperLuxe commemorates its milestone by collaborating with Sainte Croix based Sylvain Pinaud, a watchmaker embodying all of the values of independent watchmaking. With over two years in the making and limited to 12 timepieces for 12 distinguished collectors, this is the Sylvain Pinaud Origine “Ste Croix,” an EsperLuxe 5 Year Anniversary Special Collaboration.

The timepiece that put Pinaud on the map for many collectors, the Origine is distinguished by its neoclassical simplicity. The label, “time-only,” does this timepiece little justice due to the nature of its technical complexity, asymmetric dial, and movement architecture. Pinaud’s work to create an in-house gear-train and Swiss-lever escapement to meet the specific needs of the Origine places this timepiece in a realm far beyond “simplicity.”

With its massive 13.2mm balance placed front and center, there’s something poetic about the beating heart of the timepiece for all to see. It’s a clear statement of what matters most in mechanical timekeeping. Beyond all of the designing, crafting, and finishing, the balance has to hum to bring the whole contraption to life. It compliments the overall three-dimensionality of the face of the Origine, showcasing variety and texture across the elevated dial, frosted gold base plate, large mirror-polished bridge, and blued screws. It is a masterclass in watchmaking.

Turning the timepiece over, the movement is nearly an encyclopedia of finishing techniques that comes together in an aesthetically cohesive manner. We see frosting, anglage, cerclage, mirror polishing, snailing, and polished sinks throughout. A nod to the location of Pinaud’s workshop, “Fait à Ste-Croixe” (Made in Sainte-Croix) is engraved on the baseplate. Hand-wound with a 55-hour power reserve, the Origine is housed in a stainless steel case measuring 40mm in diameter and 11mm in height.
