MB&F LM101 Steel Blue
MB&F LM101 Steel Blue
Our Take
Launched originally in 2014, the Legacy Machine 101 was MB&F’s take on traditional watchmaking with a very modern twist. It’s one of the most collectible timepieces in the brand’s catalog and beloved by enthusiasts across the whole aesthetic spectrum in watchmaking – from ultra-traditional to the most avant-garde. Fast forward seven years since its original release, MB&F returned with an update to the original – the LM101 in steel with light blue dial.
The LM101 is the result of a collaboration between the brand and esteemed fellow independent watchmaker, Kari Voutilainen. Combining the spirit of traditional watchmaking and aesthetics, Kari Voutilainen’s expertise, with the creative fervor of MB&F, the LM101 feels like it could easily slide smoothly into settings a century ago or a century in the future. And that’s intentionally so. The entire Legacy Machine line is supposed to represent a blending of the best aspects of traditional watchmaking through a freshly reinterpreted, modern lens.
Compared to the original 2014 release of the LM101, this updated iteration of the timepiece has refinements to the design, decoration, and mechanics. Notably, the balance wheel is now fitted with a H. Moser double hairspring, the in-house movement’s bridges have been modified with a contrasting NAC-coated black treatment while the time and power reserve indicators have been enlarged for better legibility.
Due to its traditional case shape, unusual in the MB&F catalog, the LM101 is one of the most easily wearable timepieces from the brand. 40mm in diameter, 16mm in height, the LM101 can be worn on wrists as small as 5.5” in circumference. Both traditional and avant-garde, it’s easy to wear in both casual and formal settings. Delivered earlier this year (box and papers dated 2023), this LM101 is pre-loved and shows no signs of wear.
