MB&F HM10 Dark Bulldog
MB&F HM10 Dark Bulldog
Our Take
It seems like with every new MB&F release, Max and friends continue to push the envelope of creativity. Together, they’ve run the gambit of watch designs, drawing inspiration from jellyfish, frogs, vintage automotive. Adding to that list, the HM10 continues to walk the path of bio-inspired designs with the Bulldog, initially launched in 2020. Returning to the Bulldog once more in 2022, MB&F released three “Dark Bulldog” editions. We’re thrilled to have our hands on one of these ultra-limited timepieces – the HM10 Dark Bulldog.
The tenth Horological Machine, this is another example from MB&F that packs a massive punch. While some of MB&F’s design characteristics are immediately evident (the convex time-indicator, flying balance wheel), this is the first timepiece to be a crossover for design elements in both the Horological Machine and Legacy Machine lines. That flying balance, first appearing in the LM1 a decade ago, has finally made its way to a Horological Machine. From a collector's perspective, it’s a crossover that perfectly fits the brand’s core ethos – it’s playful, it’s innovative, and it’s deadly serious fine watchmaking.
It’s on the watchmaking side of things that we find the “Bulldog” in the HM10’s design. While the Bulldog’s eyes are the time-indicating convex domes, the “ears” take the shape of two crowns on the tail of the timepiece – one for winding, one for setting the time. While flipping the HM10 over, the coolest and most directly “dog-related” design element is the power reserve indicator. In the form of a bulldog’s jaws, an open, smiling jaw means the watch is fully wound while a clenched jaw indicates it’s time for a wind. Completely designed and developed in-house with 301-components and a 45-hour power reserve, the HM10 engine is the technical confluence of the various areas of movement expertise at MB&F, honed over years of experience.
While the original release of the HM10 came in titanium and rose gold, the Dark Bulldog features a stainless steel case with PVD coating. Limited to 8 timepieces, the HM10 Dark Bulldog is yet another utterly mad creation from the creative geniuses at MB&F.
