Our Take

Two of our favorite watchmaking brands collaborating, it simply doesn’t get much better than this. MB&F and L’Epée co-create Sherman, a clock inspired by one of Max Büsser’s childhood toys. Sherman, a little robot companion, feels alive, with his eyes carefully looking at you, and his arms ready to embrace you. This robot-clock is a playful object, it can roll on your desk and you can also play with its arms. This is the definition of a “good vibes” collaboration with all of the serious watchmaking that we’ve come to expect from both brands.

With initial ideas and designs provided by MB&F, L’Epée leaned into their tried-and-true method of ultra-functional timekeeping. The treads on Sherman are used to wind the 8-day power reserve movement. Sherman’s eyes are bolt heads supporting the regulator while the movement plates and bridges of the clock also make up the skeleton and body of the robot. Through the transparent dome on Sherman’s head, the brain of the robot is the clock’s regulator, controlling the precision of the timekeeping. Nothing is sacrificed to the altar of superfluous design or aesthetic choices.

Weighing about 1kg (2.2lbs) and standing at 6in tall, 5in wide, and 3in deep, its compact footprint means that it can fit easily onto a desk or placed on a fireplace mantel. Sure to bring a smile to anyone that sees Sherman, this is one of our favorite collabs between two titans in independent watchmaking.
