The days are gone when only the biggest brands create sports watches. From Greubel Forsey’s Balancier Series to MB&F’s EVO line to De Bethune’s DB28 GS Yellow Submarine, independent watchmakers have shown the world that they can create sports watches with the best in business. Adding his own contribution to the trend, Kari Voutilainen released the 28Sport, a sportier aesthetic for the highly esteemed, often more dressy Vingt-8. Only one of eight in the limited release, we are thrilled to present you this spectacular timepiece at the pinnacle of high horology.

Bearing all the hallmarks of Kari’s timepieces, the 28Sport has an elegant movement in a robust and stylish case. While orange hour indices create the sporty vibe, everything on this timepiece represents some of the highest watchmaking standards in the industry. Everything from the 28Sport’s engine-turned blue sandwich dial to its light titanium case to its movement, everything is entirely designed, built, fabricated, finished and assembled in the master watchmaker’s workshops in Vallée de Joux.

It’s never easy to single out what is the most exceptional aspect of any Kari Voutilainen time – there’s always so much to choose. On the 28Sport, we have to lean toward the movement. Calibre 28 shows off the master watchmaker’s signature direct impulse escapement with two, 13.6mm escapement wheels. The massiveness of the escapements jump out at the eye, occupying nearly a third of the diameter of the movement. With the integration of both a Breguet overcoil and a Grossmann interior curve, this is the shining accomplishment of the 28Sport. Coupled to the superlative hand-finishing throughout, we know that this extremely rare, supremely executed timepiece will make its next owner happy for years to come.
