Greubel Forsey Double Balancier Convexe
Greubel Forsey Double Balancier Convexe
Our Take
For nearly two decades, Greubel Forsey has sat at the pinnacle of independent watchmaking. Renowned for their angled tourbillons, three-dimensional dials, and stellar finishing, the brand simply never disappoints. That’s especially true with the release of Greubel Forsey’s first sports watch in August 2020 – the Balancier S. While a Greubel Forsey sports watch may have seemed a bit ludicrous to collectors prior to its release, the Balancier S made a huge splash and has established itself as a masterpiece in the sport watch genre. Well, we are thrilled to present one of the newer releases in Greubel Forsey’s sports watch collection, the Double Balancier Convexe.
With its arrival, the Double Balancier Convexe brings the technical aspects of the brand’s sport collection to the next level. Featuring three regulating mechanisms, two inclined balance wheels and one differential, the beating heart of the watch occupies the bottom half of the dial. Fundamentally, the idea behind the 30 degree inclined balance wheels and differential is that this arrangement maintains the most precise rates of timekeeping. The inclined balance wheels hedge against the loss of timekeeping precision in both extreme positions of fully vertical and horizontal, while the differential averages the rates from each balance wheel when one may run slightly faster or slower than the other. As is the case with all Greubel Forsey innovation, the ultimate goal of technical complexity is simply more precise timekeeping.
From an aesthetic perspective, the Double Balancier Convexe carries all the design motifs that collectors love. The movement is fully skeletonized, the action is on the dial-side with the entire gear train fully exposed, and the finishing on every surface is supreme. Measuring 43.5mm x 13.75mm, the titanium case coupled with the sleak, convex curvature alongside creates a snug, light fit on the wrist.
Limited to 66 timepieces, the brand is producing 22 per year from 2022 to 2024. Another stunner from the masters of fine finish and technical watchmaking, we know that the future owner of this Double Balancier Convexe will marvel at its presence on the wrist.
