Arnold and Son Time Pyramid 42.5 Platinum
Arnold and Son Time Pyramid 42.5 Platinum
Our Take
For Dubai Watch Week 2023, Arnold & Son is back with an update to one of the brand’s most complicated timepieces – the Time Pyramid in slimmer, 42.5mm rose gold and platinum cases.
Adorned by the signature skeletonized, pyramid shaped flying tourbillon, this timepiece is a direct nod to John Arnold’s cone shaped skeleton regulator clocks created more than 200 years ago. While the dial is technically complex, its symmetry creates an order that is pleasing on the eye. Shifting from 44.6mm to 42.5mm with a revamped case isn’t the only update here. There’s the addition of new indicators for the double power reserve, white opal minutes circle, and an aventurine glass caseback that acts as a beautiful backdrop to the skeletonized movement. The caseback is neither transparent nor opaque, allowing some light to pass through the shimmering sparkles of the decorative glass.
The movement driving the Time Pyramid is displayed for all to see. The case’s wide opening and slender bezel showcase the movement’s mechanical arrangement, while the screw balance sits majestically at 12 o’clock. Below, the gear train highlights an array of finishes that include hand chamfering, satin-finished and sunray-brushed wheels, snailed barrels and blued screws. The caliber’s structure then splits in two beneath a ring in white opal – the signature stone of Arnold & Son’s off-centered dials.
On either side of the encircled dial, two power-reserve indicators mirror one other, indicating the same information and reflecting the two barrels that power the caliber A&S1615 just a few millimeters below the surface. Fully developed, machined, assembled and adjusted at the manufacture, it can operate for 90 hours without rewinding.
Coming limited to 88 pieces in rose gold and 38 pieces in platinum, the Time Pyramid 42.5 is an impressive update to the collection.
