Our Favorite Releases From The Last Few Weeks
There’s been a lot happening over the last few weeks in the watch world. With Watches and Wonders 2021 bombarding our Instagram feeds with new novelties day after day, it’s a really fun time for the watch community. Even though there were no in-person events this year, the releases and online programming have nonetheless been exceptionally good. So coming out of the whirlwind few weeks now, we wanted to take a step back and shed light on the releases that caught our attention the most. Let’s get right into our favorite releases from the last few weeks.
Greubel Forsey - GMT Sport
Though the GMT Sport was released last year, Greubel Forsey has brought this line to the next level with a fully integrated bracelet. Long awaited, the brand delivered on exactly what the community expects with its first bracelet: top-shelf finishing and excellent design. As the natural extension of the case, the bracelet shows off hand-polished beveling, straight-graining, and frosting - an absolute masterclass in bracelet finishing. Fully crafted out of titanium, the GMT Sport with bracelet can appear a bit bulk (42mm x ~16mm high), but the weight of the titanium and the ergonomically integrated bracelet make this timepiece very comfortable on the wrist. For CHF520,000, there is no sports watch with greater “high horology” vibes than this timepiece.
DB Titan Hawk Green Dial
Over the last few years, De Bethune’s Titan Hawk has gathered a lot of attention in the enthusiast and collector community. It’s sporty, ergonomic, impeccably finished, and time-only, fairly rare for the brand focused on technical innovation and complications. With the release of the Titan Hawk Green Dial, new life has been breathed into the timepiece years after the model’s initial release. Primarily, this new release is equipped with an updated caliber, the AUTOV2, featuring a single barrel with 60 hours of power reserve. In true De Bethune form, the caseback shows off the beating-heart, patented titanium balance with white gold inserts. Combined with the green dial, this revitalization of the Titan Hawk line will surely be a massive hit with indie collectors.
Arnold & Son Luna Magna
We’re no strangers to Arnold & Son timepieces over the years, and the latest release of the Luna Magna gives us more of a reason to love the brand. At 44mm in diameter and 15.9cm in height, the Luna Magna has the world’s largest moon built into a watch. The three-dimensional moon is crafted out of aventurine and marble, creating a beautiful, massive moon indicator on both the dial and movement sides of the timepiece. Coupled with the new, in-house A&S1021 hand-wound mechanical caliber, this release certainly catches the eye of horological enthusiasts and collectors. Priced at CHF43,900 (excluding taxes), this is a lot of watch for the money and one we look forward to seeing in person soon.
Urwerk UR-100V Blue Planet
We’ve had the pleasure of handling the UR-100 “C3PO” recently, and we love the whole UR-100 line. Ergonomic, slim, the UR-100 wears easily with all of the facets of Urwerk’s watchmaking. And that’s why we were excited to see the latest iteration of the line, the UR-100V Blue Planet. With this timepiece, the beauty is in the details. The steel case is coated in a deep blue PVD, producing almost a navy color in certain light. While the satellite hour mechanism on the dial and rotor are blued to suit the case, this iteration of the UR-100 simply has a killer look. This timepiece will go alongside others like the UR-103 TIAiN as a creation with remarkable color through the unusual approach to coating the case. Like the UR-103 TIAiN and the UR-100’s that came before the Blue Planet, we’re sure this one is going to be a hit with independent collectors as well.
Of course, this is by no means an exhaustive list of notable new releases. Which is why, we’d love to hear what stuck out to you, especially new timepieces from independents? Let us know by commenting on our Instagram post here.
