Introducing the H. Moser x MB&F Streamliner Pandamonium for Only Watch 2023
When Only Watch 2023 released its preview catalog for the upcoming auction in November, there were a few notable brands with info on their watches still to come. One of these was the H. Moser x MB&F collaboration, known only by title – the Streamliner Pandamonium. Fast forward a month since the auction catalog’s initial release, H. Moser and MB&F dropped their exceptional pièce unique collaboration during Geneva Watch Days.
H. MOSER x MB&F STREAMLINER PANDAMONIUM
This is not the first time both brands have joined forces to create a timepiece. They released two timepieces in 2020, each one staying true to the watchmaking identity of the lead while injecting elements of the collaborator. The Moser x MB&F Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon and MB&F x Moser LM101 showcase the best of both worlds – the Moser timepiece is its rendition of the other’s Thunderdome design while the MB&F timepiece presents a Legacy Machine with the ultra-minimalist, elegant aesthetic of the other’s fumé dials. Those two timepieces set the bar for both brand’s collaboration with one another, and the Streamliner Pandamonium meets the expectation (and then some!).
Rare to find a minute repeater that is more sporty and fun, the Streamliner Pandamonium brings Moser’s case with the hammer and gong complication on the dial side while positioning MB&F suspended balance wheel front and center alongside. The minimalism of the aquamarine sunburst fumé dial pairs perfectly with the technical elements of this watch, as there’s so much to already for the eye to explore between the balance wheel, minute repeater, and panda. Over the years, MB&F has used the panda as a mascot for its Only Watch timepieces. Here, the panda stands at a DJ turntable, directly in front of the chiming mechanism, ready to play music whenever the minute repeater is activated.
Some modifications were required to make this timepiece possible. With the integration of case, dial, and movement, it became unfeasible to assemble through the caseback. A removable bezel solved this issue – everything is cased and assembled from above. The in-house HMC 906 caliber features 395 components and 37 jewels. For an haute complication, the Streamliner’s screw-down crown ensures 50m water resistance – a minute repeater capable of handling the wear and tear of everyday life without high anxiety.
Only Watch has become a sandbox for some of our favorite independent brands to collaborate and experiment with one another. The Urwerk x Laurent Ferrier collaboration for Only Watch 2017, Urwerk x De Bethune in 2019, De Bethune x Kari Voutilainen in 2021, these are the watch industry’s equivalent of an Marvel Avenger film – all our favorite superheroes are in the same place.
